Project Overview

Homegrown Cannabis specializes in providing high-quality feminized weed seeds across the U.S. They have a large selection of premium marijuana strains ranging from fast versions to autoflowers, Sativa- and Indica-dominant cannabis seeds. The company also offers weed plant nutrients and grow supplies.

Goals

Homegrown Cannabis aims to boost its online visibility and attract more organic traffic to its various cannabis seeds product pages, leading to increased sales and revenue. That’s when they hired us to devise a strategy to achieve this objective.
The goal was also to improve the site’s authority among competitors and position for high-volume keywords related to weed seeds and growing cannabis at home.

What We Did

Optimization of Collection Pages

Optimizing collection pages enhances user experience by improving navigation, load speed, and search visibility, leading to higher conversions and revenue.
With that in mind, we conducted comprehensive research to identify high-conversion, bottom-of-the-funnel keywords for each weed seed collection page, ensuring we targeted keywords that drive buying or growing intent.

  • We also created customized content targeting specific keywords to boost search engine visibility and worked on key components like URLs, metadata, headings, and image alt attributes.
  • For every page, we incorporated a detailed FAQ section, addressing key questions related to the main keyword of that specific page. These questions were inspired by Google’s PAA (People Also Ask) section and other high-value keywords.
  • The content was optimized and included links to other relevant collection pages like nutrients and supplies or existing blog posts where appropriate.
  • This approach improved site navigation, enhanced the user experience, and consolidated the internal linking framework.

Silo Content Strategy

Search engines can better understand the relevance of Homegrown Cannabis online content when it is organized into silos. This can help increase the website’s visibility in search results.
So, we created an in-depth resource on cannabis seeds, exploring everything from how to grow weed seeds to best nutrients and practices.
The guide was designed with a silo structure, dedicating a focused section to each major aspect of cannabis cultivars. Logical internal linking between sections enhanced the website’s thematic organization and user navigation.
To ensure top-tier content quality, we enlisted an experienced cannabis-niche-focused writer and the in-house editor—a professional and recognized grower.
This added credibility and aligned with Google’s E-E-A-T principles by delivering content from a trusted authority in the niche.

Informative Blog Articles

While many of our in-depth informational articles were tailored for guest posting and link-building efforts, we also recognized the potential of blog content to attract traffic and boost conversion rates for the e-commerce store.

  • We developed a series of targeted blog posts covering topics like indoor and outdoor cannabis cultivation, selecting the best weed seeds for specific needs (e.g., high-yield, high-THC, autoflowers), and providing solutions to common issues faced by beginner growers.
  • These posts offered detailed guides and practical advice for home growers and recreational users.
  • Each article was strategically optimized with relevant keywords to enhance search engine visibility and drive organic traffic.
  • To establish credibility, the blog articles were published under a comprehensive author bio containing the writer’s expertise and industry background.

Link Insertions

Another vital opportunity we explored for Homegrown Cannabis was ethical link insertions. These attracted users who click on links in relevant content on authoritative websites, leading to more organic traffic.
Our process began with identifying authoritative websites and blogs in the cannabis sector that could be valuable partners for linking back to our client’s site.
We then analyzed their content in detail, focusing on areas where a link to our client’s offerings would integrate naturally and add value for their audience. This ensured alignment between the platform’s existing content and Homegrown Cannabis products.
After outreach messages for collaborative opportunities that would benefit both parties, we received positive feedback and negotiated to secure strategic link placements on these platforms.

Digital PR

We also focused on a Digital PR campaign as part of our link-building strategy to improve the site’s domain authority and ultimately drive more organic sales.
To drive distribution, we identified a list of publications specializing in the marijuana niche. The focus was on those with a track record of covering topics such as the best weed seeds and cannabis for issues like sleep, pain, and anxiety.
We crafted personalized outreach pitches tailored to capture their interest and align with their editorial focus. We secured the desired media coverage and earned high-quality backlinks.

Results

457% Boost in Organic Traffic

The SEO efforts we put into Homegrown Cannabis began to yield results from the jump in monthly organic traffic on the site.
When we started, we recorded an average of 4,560 monthly visits to the e-commerce store. After implementing our link-building strategies and category page optimization, the traffic steadily grew by 457%, recording 25,400 visits.
This organic traffic boost was a recipe for increased sales since more visitors with weed seeds buying intent landed on the site.

432% More Keywords in Top 10 Position

Homegrown Cannabis’ product pages began ranking for 2,200 new keywords in the top 10 positions, marking a 432% increase compared to the initial traffic (413).

Several high-value keywords are now ranking prominently for our client’s product pages. For instance, Homegrown Cannabis currently holds the number one position on Google SERP for the target keyword “white truffle ice cream strain,” a highly sought-after Indica-dominant cannabis in the market.

328% Increase in Keywords in Top 10 Position

The website has experienced remarkable growth in its keyword rankings. Initially, Canada Grow Supplies ranked for 148 keywords, but we’re glad to report a significant rise to 634 keywords in the top 10 positions — an impressive 328% increase.

Additionally, the site ranks within the top 10 for other relevant keywords, such as “red runtz” and “quarter pounder strain,” among many others, showcasing strong visibility across multiple search terms.

188% Boost in Domain Rating

We successfully built 165 high-quality backlinks from websites in relevant niches. Each backlink was carefully placed to ensure it was natural, contextually relevant, and aligned with the content.
The referring websites had an averagely high Domain Rating (DR). This strategic link-building initiative improved the site’s Domain Rating, which impressively increased from 17 to 49 within the 8-month period of working with them.
